There is one thing I can say for sure about 2011 so far: Mother Nature is not a happy woman! She has been wrecking havoc all over the world and these days no one is safe from her wrath. I never thought I would be telling my kids one day that I saw a hurricane and an earthquake (AND in the same week) in New York but it's true. Records are being broken all over with temperatures, rain fall (or lack thereof), and magnitudes and directions of storms. It is a crazy world these days so we all should be watching the news and weather channels to be prepared, no matter where you live.

While paintball is be a very fun and exciting sport, it must be known that you can get seriously hurt while playing it (regardless of whether or not you have breast implants). The article says that the paintball was traveling at 190 miles per hour! Clearly I think people who play this sport should wear protective gear to cover any part of them they would not want hurt or damaged...real or not!

Lindsey Pulls a Pippa!!

Lindsey Lohan pulled the ultimate Pippa Middleton and stole the show at Kim K's wedding this past weekend. Not only did she wear the same gown that Pippa wore on the evening of Kate's wedding, Lilo also turned lots of heads with her looks - only in this case the attention wasn't all good. In addition to rocking more cleavage than a Jersey Shore cast member, Lindsey also overdid it with the botox and lip injections.

Between the tan, the bleach blonde hair and the injectables, Linds is just as fake as the wedding between Kim and Kris. We all love a little botox. It definitely has its place our beauty regimens, but too much can make a person look older than they really are. I mean just look at this picture. Lindsey is only 25 years old and she looks older than 48 year old mom Dina!

Vienna Girardi and Mr. Potato Head

Remember those little plastic potato heads with the big, removable noses that you played with as a kid? Well reality star Vienna Girardi, who recently underwent rhinoplasty, thinks that that is what her nose looked like before her surgery. And while a new nose might not be as easy as popping out one piece of plastic and plugging in another, at least she had the option of rhinoplasty.

One of the top cosmetic surgeries performed these days is the rhinoplasty, as Dr. Walden recently discussed in SHAPE. Many celebs (and pseudo-celebs) undergo this procedure in order to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing look. I was looking at Vienna's before pictures in US Weekly (see below), and reading her comments regarding the shape of her nose, and this got me thinking about different types of noses.

While we often see celebrities who have fairly attractive features to begin with and who have minimal changes made in order to improve their appearances, there are some who have less attractive features to begin with. In Vienna's case, she had a hooked nose, often called a 'bird nose' or 'hawk nose', which reminds me of the shape of Paris Hilton's nose.

This type of nose can be drastically improved with a rhinoplasty procedure, and in Vienna's case I do think the improvement can be considered drastic, especially if you look at the profile shot. Lucky for Vienna, even though she acted like a witch on The Bachelor, she doesn't have to look like one.

J-Whoa!!

The new season of The Jersey Shore begins tomorrow night and the fact that they're in Italy is not the only big change. Jenni Farley, known as J-Wow, looks completely different than she did before. Let's be honest, in the first season she was a little rough around the edges with the blue or blond hair clips and the almost non-existent outfits (well that really didn't change that much). However, after that she cleaned up her look a little and lost some weight and she really did look pretty. This not the case anymore.

At the reunion special that aired this week, J-Wow was seen looking really fake (and not just her breasts). It seems as though she went overboard with fillers in her face. She could barely talk; I had to rewind and pause a few times just to watch her try. Her face looks so unnatural and it really is such a shame she had to over-do it. I guess that's how she does everything...the implants, the outfits, the make-up! Here's the pictures to show how she's changed over the seasons:

Rumer Has It...

Rumor has it that Rumer Willis has gotten breast implants. Lets take a look. Below is a picture of Willis from 2009, followed by a photo of the 22 year old that was taken several weeks ago.

Because of the difference in size, an obvious increase of at least two cup sizes, I believe that it is likely that Rumer has undergone breast augmentation. I think that the results are great - natural looking and a perfect size for her frame. Her breasts not only look fuller, but also lifted, in comparison with the first picture where her breasts show signs of ptosis, or sagging. Many speculate that Rumer's mom Demi must have one of the greatest plastic surgeons on speed dial because of the way she seems to age in reverse - constantly looking younger in a natural way. So it comes as no surprise that Rumer would have equally excellent and natural results. Kudos to her doctor for a job well done!

Momager Kris Jenner gets Facelift for Kim's Big Day!

They're calling it the wedding of the century. No, I'm not talking about Will and Kate. The 'they' I am referring to is the first family of reality TV: the Kardashians - and 'they' are referring to Kim's upcoming wedding to Kris Humphries as just that. So it should come as no surprise that Momager Kris Jenner would want to look her best for her daughter's HUGE day. (Side note: I can't wait to see this wedding and of course the dress).

Kris Jenner, who clearly takes great care of her skin, has recently admitted to undergoing a mini face lift. Her surgeon, Dr. Garth Fisher, says the name of the procedure is the 'Format Face Pinnacle Lift' and that it 'is a natural face rejuvenation procedure designed to freshen up and open the eyes, elevate the cheeks, and provide youthful contours to the jawline and neck'. I think it is great that Kris owns the fact that she has had a little nip/tuck, which is more than can be said for most celebs. Love em or hate em, you have to admit those Kardashians have got genetics on their sides when it comes to their looks. Mama Kris looks pretty fantastic for 55 years old and 6 kids, and a mini face lift is a perfect way for her to feel extra glam on her daughter's big day.

The 'Magic' of Plastic Surgery

The final Harry Potter movie premiered this week, but it's not the actors who have had work done. Before author J.K. Rowling became a billionaire, she was living on welfare and the stress of life took a toll on her appearance. She had huge bags under her eyes which made her appear tired and much older than she really was. Luckily for Rowling, magic isn't limited to the pages of her novels - plastic surgery can make us look younger, even as we age! Just look at the difference in Rowling's before and after photos:

Rowling appears to have undergone eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), giving her eyes a wider look which helps her to look younger and less tired. She has likely also had dermal filler injections to help smooth out wrinkles in the eye area, as well as Botox, Juvederm, or Restylane injections on her forehead, around her eyes, and laugh lines around her mouth. Additionally, she has probably had her nose reshaped. Previously, her nose appeared wider and slightly crooked, while now it is better proportioned to her face. The Harry Potter author is an excellent example of the magic of a well done plastic surgery job.

Leading Ladies Luscious Lips

It's been a while since we've since Megan Fox in a major blockbuster, but since she's been replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Transformers, everyone has been comparing the two leading ladies.

Despite their differences, (Rosie is tall, blonde and British while Megan is petite, brunette and All-American), they have one MAJOR thing in common - lovely luscious lips.

So, since we already know Megan's pout is the result of injectable lip fillers (such as collagen and Restalyne), what do we think about Rosie's? It's hard to imagine one could be so lucky to be born with lips THAT luscious, but in this case I think Rosie is just blessed with good genes.

Long Island Surger-ita

Amy Fisher, who infamously shot her lover's wife when she was just 17 years old, earning her the nickname 'Long Island Lolita', is now becoming infamous for having tons of plastic surgery.

In 1999 Fisher had multiple surgeries after her release from jail, claiming that she wanted to change her look so that she was less recognizable and so that she could live a more normal life. Her new look, the result of several more recent surgeries, is anything but normal. Those lips, the cheeks, the breasts, the nose and the eyes, make her look more like a cartoon character than a person, and the saddest part is that she was actually pretty prior to all of this.

While injections, breast augmentation and rhinoplasty all have their place, there is such a thing as over-doing it and I think it's pretty obvious in this case Amy has gone too far.

Fisher is now facing her alcohol addiction as a cast member on the new season of 'Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew'. Maybe she should also consider addressing her addiction to plastic surgery!

Hot Mama Katie

Katie Holmes, pictured below, enjoyed the weekend frolicking on Miami Beach with adorable daughter Suri.

Several weeks ago the tabloids speculated that Katie was pregnant again, based on this picture. However, it is clear from the new bikini pics that the belly she had in those photos was probably nothing more than a little bloating (it happens to all of us) or strange camera angle.

In fact, as these new pictures show, Katie's stomach is quite flat except for some slight looseness and rippling of the skin, probably the result of her pregnancy and subsequent weight loss. After giving birth many women experience significant changes to this area of their bodies and many desire a tummy tuck to help them achieve their pre-baby bodies.

In Katie's case, maybe she is waiting until after she has more kids to have any procedures done on her stomach. I sure hope that is the case because that Suri is the cutest little girl and Katie seems like she really enjoys being a Mom. She has said in the past that she hopes to have more children when the time is right.

After a woman decides that she is done having children and wants to work on regaining her once taut midsection, a tummy tuck can be a great treat, helping her to regain that confidence and feel good about herself. Many women undergo 'Mommy Makeovers', which might include a breast lift and a tummy tuck.

In milder cases like Katie's there are also some great non-surgical laser technologies available to help tighten that loose skin.

I think it is great that women have these options today. Having children does not mean we have to give up on our own appearances. As Katie shows, it is possible to regain our bodies and still look hot!

The Love Can't Be Real And Neither Are Those

Everyone has been talking about the recent wedding between Green Mile actor Doug Hutchison and aspiring singer Courtney Alexis Stodden and the controversy just seems endless. He is 51 and she is 16, which makes most stomaches turn (mine included). Not only are these two trying to convince everyone their love is real but Courtney is claiming her breasts are as well. I'd say the likelihood of them being real is the same as this marriage lasting longer than a paper cut.

I can't decide what is worse: the ridiculous age difference, the fact that a 16 year old could look like that, or the hundreds of extremely inappropriate pictures of this girl that are all over the internet! The only thing I can say I'm sure of about this situation is that her breasts are not real and anyone can see that from the picture below. I think she has had filler put in her lips as well. It's not that they're abnormally big, but they protrude unnaturally...which I guess is her theme.

Broadway Babes

The Tony awards were held in New York this past Sunday and all of Broadway's stars were up for review. Now it's our turn to review the stage beauties.

Ellen Barkin:

I recently saw Ellen Barkin interviewed by Piers Morgan. She discussed her role in the broadway show 'The Normal Heart', for which she won best actress in a featured role at the Tony awards this weekend. Piers highlighted Ellen's sex-symbol status and flirtatiously complimented her well-maintained looks.

Ellen appears to have used some fillers, such as Restylane, as well as fat and collagen injections to plump up some areas like her lips and soften some lines on her face.

The 57 year old, who is dating the 26 year old son of famed moviemaker Barry Levinson, has clearly still got it.

Edie Falco:

In that same episode of the Piers Morgan show, Edie Falco was interviewed about her Broadway Role in 'House of Blue Leaves'. While she has been an outspoken member of the anti-plastic surgery camp in the past, I find her to appear with noticeably fewer wrinkles in photos taken at the Tony awards this weekend. It is likely that she has also has some injectables to smooth out the fine lines.

The 47 year old single mother has overcome cancer as well as battled alcohol addiction. I think anyone would need a little cosmetic pick me up after all of that and I think she looks great.

Alexa Rae Joel:

Supermodel mother? Check. Music megastar father? Check. Alexa Rae Joel has acknowledged that keeping up with such successful parents has been difficult for her.

In 2010 she admitted to having rhinoplasty surgery and in an interview with 20/20 in July of that year she said this has helped her confidence, which in turn has helped her in "moving out of the shadows" of her parents. A singer like her father, Alexa Rae is relatively low key when it comes to public appearances, but when she showed up to support her mother at the Tony's this past weekend I thought she was simply stunning.

Leo "Nose" How to Pick Em'

I have loved Blake Lively ever since I saw her in the first Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie. She is not only drop-dead gorgeous, but also charming and adorable.

And it seems her career is only getting hotter. Blake topped the week’s ‘most searched celebrities’, beating out Kim Kardashian, and I suspect her amazing looks, and perhaps her rumored new beau Leo, have something to do with this.

Since Blake seems to be everywhere these days, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon and talk about how her career and looks have changed since her arrival in hollywood.

While Blake was already gorgeous before, I think that the results of the rhinoplasty surgery that she had done at some time between finishing work on the first Sisterhood movie and beginning work on Gossip Girl helped in taking her looks and career to the next level.

Prior to surgery, Blake's nose was slightly bulbous, giving her face more of a cute appearance. Post surgery Blake's nose is much more refined and allows her to achieve the sophisticated look that, along with her fashion sense, she has become so famous for.

Dr. Walden was on CBS News this week discussing the reasons some teenagers are getting plastic surgery these days. We have all seen one of the reasons in the news but maybe not directly related to plastic surgery: bullying. Bullying is the age old form of torture that children and adolescents just love to inflict on each other. While this may seem like a rite of passage or just a tradition, it can be detrimental to the kid being bullied. This can have long lasting effects on a child's self-esteem, confidence, and social skills and these are essential to success in school and later on in the workplace. In the last few years there have even been suicides and school shootings because of bullying! It is a serious topic.

We all know kids can be cruel and very blunt, especially when appearances are involved. A large nose or ears that stick (both are seen in the segment)are targets for such ridicule. That's why these days more and more teenagers are looking into plastic surgery to fix such things. I believe that having something that bothers you everyday fixed can change your life so much for the better. This is much like when parents get their kids braces so they have straight teeth because teeth are a large part of one's appearance. We want our kids to be happy and confident and sometimes it takes a little more than buying them a new outfit. These days there are more options out there and I think parents should explore them if they feel their child could benefit from them.

With Memorial Day here, summer has officially arrived, and for hollywood starlettes that means one thing, bikinis, bikinis, bikinis!!!! While we all love a bikini treat revealing the toned and perky bods of the twenty-somethings, we must say that hollywood's leading middle-aged ladies are giving them a run for their money. Just check out Modern Family's Sofia Vergara, featured in a recent Pepsi ad with David Beckham.

The spicy Latina, who is famous for her show stopping curves, denies having any work done, but we can't help speculating about her her full and lifted breasts. While it is always possible for a woman's breasts to increase several sizes as she ages and has children, it is not quite so usual for the breasts to remain so lifted and full around the top. Below is a picture of Vergara from her earlier modeling days:

There is a noticeable difference in the fullness and lift. Breast implants can provide a nice lift and can be well-hidden under already sizable breasts to provide this type of natural look. Either way we think Sofia sports a fabulous curvy look that is a nice change from some of the stick thin celebs we are used to seeing. Also for a thirty-eight year old woman, her face looks young and fresh leading one to believe she has had some botox and fillers. Whatever you're doing Sofia, keep doing it!

Congratulations to our very own Olivia Ward who was crowned the season 11 winner of The Biggest Loser on last night's finale. We are so proud of our girl who is a longtime employee of Dr. Walden's who embarked on her AMAZING weight loss journey beginning last October. She is such a part of our family, and the whole office is on such a high this morning after Olivia's dramatic transformation culminated in victory last night.

Olivia has always had the drive of a champion, moving to New York originally to pursue her career as an opera singer, and there is no doubt that she will continue to do great things on the health and wellness front. We are also excited to have Olivia return to our office soon to help others to achieve their goals so that their outer beauty is able to match their inner beauty! We are all planning to go on a training program once we see her walk through that door!

It is no surprise to those who know her that she attacked The Biggest Loser competition like a wild animal, beating out some very large boys to come out the underdog victor. She lost half her body weight and gained a new perspective on life. In addition to her fierce determination she has a heart of gold and is a dear friend who deserves all the success her hard work has led her to. We love you and are so proud of your well earned victory!

Cannes Festival Beauties

We all love movie premiers and film festivals because of the movies right? Of course not! It's the dresses, the fashion, the designers, oh and a little thing we call botox! This year's Cannes Festival showcased some of Hollywood's most beautiful in their favorite designer's gowns and suits. While most people were looking at the outfits, I was looking at what was above them. I found a few actresses I wanted to comment on:

Uma Thurman: The 41 year old mother of two looks fabulous. There's just a few wrinkles here and there to remind us how long we have had her in our lives but she is absolutely radiant. It looks like she has had some botox in her forehead and filler in her smile lines. Everything is so well done and looks so natural.

Penelope Cruz: While the 37 year old new mom does look great, I don't think she looks that natural. We'll cut her some slack though because she just had her son and probably was too excited to get back to her botox/filler routine. She does look youthful though and her post-baby body is fantastic.

Naomi Campbell: The model, who turns 41 this week, turned a few heads at the festival (not in a good way). I think that in the attempt to keep up with the modeling world, she overdid it a little and doesn't look like herself. It just doesn't look natural. Her full cheeks do make her look like a nicer person though!

Best Small Implants EVER! (IMO)

Implants have the common misconception of being huge, out of control, bulbous, and overly round. They sometimes get a really bad wrap. Especially in hollywood where we see 90lb girls getting DDD's when they have no business doing so. (Ahem, we are talking to you, girlfriends of Hugh Hefner). Implants can be a beautiful thing. In our opinion, implants should be a natural enhancement that coincide with your frame, natural build and anatomy. So, in celebration of this thought I have chosen my favorite small scale, proportionate implant job of all time. Drumroll please.........Sophia Bush! I think she looks so fantastic. It can be tricky to put an implant in a small framed girl and achieve this natural of a look. Surgery job well-done. So today, Sophia, I celebrate your full B's...they are just B-eautiful!

A New Chinny-Chin-Chin

Bristol Palin has come a long way from the Alaskan teen who became the overnight poster child for teen pregnancy a few years back. Last year she spent the better part of the year in L.A. for her surprisingly long run on Dancing With the Stars. Maybe it was all that time in Hollywood that inspired her to change up her look. She recently stepped out debuting no doubt a new chin, and possibly some other minor alterations to her appearance.

In a matter of one year Bristol has a much more mature, grown up look, which I think is partly due to a nice weight loss and a little surgical intervention. Her chin is longer and more refined which is most likely the result of a chin augmentation which uses a chin implant to create the new look. Her lips also appear to be fuller which is possibly the result of an HA filler like Restylane or Juvederm. Her cheeks and neck are noticeably smaller which might just be the result of her weight loss or possibly buccal fat removal and/or liposuction.

I love her new look! I think whatever work she did have done was all in good taste and moderation. She looks refined and grown up and whatever the mechanism was used to rid herself of that baby fat it worked. Bristol is a woman. Wonder if Levi is going to come crawling back... Over Sarah's dead body!

Jessica Simpson Looking Pouty At US Weekly's Hot In Hollywood Event!

US Weekly (one of our fave mags here at the office) hosted their annual Hot In Hollywood party last week, studded with the hottest celebs. Walking the red carpet were some gorgeous dresses, killer stilettos and plenty of botox and fillers! One that caught our eye was Miss (soon to be Mrs.) Jessica Simpson who was named Style Icon of the Year at the event. Miss Simpson was looking pouty perfect thanks to perhaps some lip filler. What we like here is how natural her lips look in reference to her other facial features. It's a subtle difference that wouldn't easily be pinpointed as "omg look at her lips!" Thats what we like! Just a little natural enhancement for America's favorite Texas beauty. Of course a little pink lip gloss never hurt either.

A Royal Cover-Up

What do you do when you're pregnant and can't get your botox for the event of the decade? You either cut bangs or you put on a hat! Luckily for Victoria Beckham, hats were of course a staple at the royal wedding; only most people wore them on their heads and not on their faces. Victoria's hat was strategically placed right over her forehead! Hmm..covering something? Pregnant with her fourth child, Victoria didn't have the option of getting her normal treatments, including botox and fillers, for the big event so she did the next best thing. I think it was brilliant.

While today was the perfect day for a hat, Victoria is going to have to come up with some other clever ways to hide until she graces us with a fourth beautiful child. America is not as hat-friendly as England (I'm pretty sure no country is) so expect to see bangs soon! Of course, she is married to a beautiful distraction so maybe she should just stand next to David all the time and we would never notice any wrinkles...

The Royal Wedding

What else could someone blog about on 4/29/11 other than The Royal Wedding!!! It is ALL we've been hearing about for months and in recent weeks it has consumed the airwaves so much so that I found out about the deadly tornado in the south 24 hours after it happened by watching American Idol. I have to admit I was a little annoyed by all the coverage leading up to the big day but when I woke up this morning I ran to the television to catch a glimpse of the glowing couple and of course to find out who designed the dress. I had to run to work because I couldn't bring myself to leave the house before the big balcony kiss. I have officially caught the fever.

Let me start off by saying that the newly titled Duchess of Cambridge looks absolutely stunning

today and my girl crush meter is going nuts right now. She is beautiful, sweet, elegant, stylish, and seems like a cool girl on top of all that. She has handled all the royal pressure like a seasoned pro and despite having the whole world watching every minute of her wedding she came across like any other bride...glowing and happy.

William and Kate continue to set new trends for the next generation of Royals with their relaxed approach to being the heirs to the throne. As they continue to live their lives more like commoners than royalty, I have to wonder if Kate will eventually break the plastic surgery taboo for the Royals. I have no doubt that there have been secret nip/tucks from the royal sector but I highly doubt it has been done with the Queen's knowledge or approval. Kate is young and flawless at the moment but even Royals age and it will be interesting to watch her over the years. Look no further than her mother to know that it will no doubt be a graceful process.

Now I couldn't help but notice that Sarah Burton had to build boobies into that gorgeous gown. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Duchess should run out tomorrow and have breast augmentation but I can't help but feel like her figure would look even better with some Kate Hudson style b-cups. The Queen won't even notice! We are here for you Duchess Catherine if you ever decide you want to take the plunge. Your secret will be safe with us!

Half Their Age (& Half The Truth!)

People Magazine's most recent issue is out and besides naming Jennifer Lopez the most world's most beautiful woman (she is very beautiful but that is an extreme declaration!) they have a segment about women who look half their age. Along with their pictures, these women talk about how and why they look that good. Well, they really only talk about half of the reasons. Of course they begin with the gorgeous, age-defying Christie Brinkley:

She says her secret is that she multi-tasks and is careful about how much make up she wears and what color she dyes her hair. And yes we should believe that is why she looks like this at 57. The Easter bunny is coming over to my house on Sunday too! I wasn't looking for a detailed invoice of what all these women had done but at least give a hint or two about having a little help (from a friendly dermatologist or surgeon) so that women in their 40's and 50's aren't going crazy at home thinking that this is possible without that. I think they all look young, healthy and natural, but it is because they have had help. Anyone could see that they have had Botox and fillers and I applaud them for not overdoing it. They don't look fake or frozen at all. Here are the other examples and their "explanations":

Stacey Dash, now 44 and says she washes her face every night and drinks water. Sorry Stacey, but we are not as clueless as you were back then.

Dana Delaney, an amazing 55 years old, just got a role that was made for a 35 year old. She says she only eats fish and vegetables and does yoga. While those definitely keep you in shape and healthy, they don't take away the wrinkles 55 years on this earth will give you!
The same thing goes for Lucy Liu, 42. Yes, the running, pilates, and yoga she does helps her keep her Charlie's Angels body, but botox and fillers have helped her keep her youthful face.

Even with a little help, I think these women have done a great job taking care of themselves and they should be proud. They're beautiful!

Reese Witherspoon Looking Fresh and Fab On The Red Carpet!

New movie Water For Elephants starring the lovely Reese Witherspoon and the equally lovely Robert Pattinson premiered this past weekend. At the premier was glowing newlywed Witherspoon looking freshly botoxed and fabulous! Reese appears to have had a few injections in the lower forehead and possibly lip filler. Reese still has plenty of movement in her face, a sign of a botox-job-well-done! We like our actresses to have expressions for crying out loud! Her skin looks youthful and radiant, just like every new bride dreams of. It sure doesn't hurt that she spent the night alongside dashing co-star Robbie Patts. He could make anyone look good, not that Reese needs any help.

These beautiful ladies are not only our patients for the month of April, but they are also part of our amazing staff! Olivia (left) is an amazingly talented opera singer when she's not in our office and Alicia was with us until a few months ago when she pursued a career in public relations. Appearance plays a big part of the theater and the p.r. world so these girls made sure they looked their best! Working at our office opened their eyes to options and treatments that have enhanced their already natural beauty.

Olivia and Alicia have both had Botox treatments for wrinkle correction, as well as wrinkle prevention. To even out their skin tone and make their skin glow, they have had several chemical peels. They both also got fillers in heir lips for a natural-looking enhancement. It's not just about looking good...it's about feeling good (and the way that makes you look)!

Why Rose Why?

I'm sure those of you that saw Rose McGowan on Law and Order SVU on Wednesday night were as disappointed as I was to see what she has done to herself. Her face just looks awful and fake. Her lips are over-injected, her cheeks are over-injected, and it looks like she has had her nose worked on again. Her whole face seemed puffy and abnormal. She could have done some correction without over-doing it, which she clearly did. By looking at early pictures of her (the Charmed era), you can see she had a little work done on her nose but it fit her face beautifully and I think she looked great. Now she has just gone too far and it is disappointing.

The sad thing is that I thought she was a pretty girl before all this and I liked her. She took on tough-girl roles and that's why women liked her and why men were attracted to her. I was willing to overlook the whole Marilyn Manson relationship and the chain-link dress but not this. When you take a pretty face and do this to it, it is just a shame. For those of you that forgot how pretty she used to be, I have added an older photo of her.

More men getting plastic surgery

Although we may write about women most of the time on this blog, we cannot forget that the number of men getting plastic surgery today is rising. Many high profile men opt to go under the knife but even 'average men' want to improve their appearance and are certainly willing to go through surgery. An ASPS Member Surgeon, Dr. Stephen Baker told one news source, "They want to look good. So when they have the financial means to do it, they are ready to do it now." (IndianExpress) Some of the more popular cosmetic procedures that men are having done seem to be rhinoplasty, facelifts and hair transplants, in addition to getting peels and using fillers.
Of course, I do feel the need to mention that women still get more plastic surgery than men. According to IndianExpress, "Women received 91 per cent of all cosmetic procedures, totaling 11.5 million." Breast Augmentation has been noted as being the top cosmetic procedure for women. Last year about 300,000 women underwent breast augmentation, making this a 40% increase of women going under the knife for this procedure in the last 10 years. I'd also like to add that this procedure remains to be the most popular procedure among Dr. Walden's patients.

There has been a lot of buzz about Fergie's appearance when the Black Eyed Peas performed on American Idol this past thursday. She looked so different that everyone had to take a double take to see if it was really her. Fergie's not new to plastic surgery (she has had work done on her nose and she admits to using Botox) so people are wondering about what she had done. Her cheeks appear much fuller than usual and the bridge of her nose seems to be narrower (that could be make up and lighting though). If I had to guess I would say that she had fillers put in her cheeks. High and full cheeks gives a youthful appearance and I think she looks great.

I like all of the work she has had done. Her nose (see below) used to be much wider before she had surgery and now it looks beautiful. Botox has given her a clean and smooth forehead that makes her look young and rested too. For a 36 year old woman who grew up in California and spent so much time in the sun and was once addicted to crystal meth and now performs on world-wide tours...I think she couldn't possibly look better!

The "Gammy" Awards

Whether they stole the show in a mini, or were sexily peaking out from underneath the slit of a gown, beautiful legs were a full on accessory at last night's grammy awards. Some of these ladies could have gotten away with wearing no makeup at all since the viewer's eye was never going to make it above the waist anyway. Jennifer Lopez's sticks looked so hot I wouldn't have noticed if she still had a towel on her head!

Long, thin, toned, cellulite & spider vein free legs are every woman's dream and if great legs were easy to come by the floor length gown probably would have been done away with a long time ago. You don't hear us plastic surgery folks talking about legs all that much but I assure you this is not because women don't consider it a problem area. These days you can get rid of your wrinkles during a lunch break, and going from an A to a C cup takes about as long as a yoga class. Making legs look prettier is unfortunately not such an easy task...liposuction can leave a legacy of excess skin and dimpling behind while none of the newer skin tightening devices offer predictable or long term results. Then there is the infamous thigh lift which in theory sounds great until you start talking scars and recovery, not such a panacea anymore...and my favorite, if all the money spent on cellulite creams that do nothing went to starving children in Africa they would have the same childhood obesity problem we do. Made my point?

Is all hope lost? Of course not! There are many people who are good candidates for leg liposuction and I think as the non-surgical tightening devices continue to evolve the results will improve greatly. Spider veins respond well to traditional sclerotherapy which works by collapsing the vein (don't worry, they're so small your circulatory system won't even know they're gone!) or laser therapy. Diet and exercise are imperative to minimizing leg fat, toning, and improving circulation so don't expect your doctor to do it all. With a strong doctor-patient team effort beautiful legs can be your best accessory too.

Has Eva had liposuction? Did Jenny from the block need sclerotherapy after the birth of the twins? These are hard procedures to detect. Unlike the guessing game of "did she or didn't she" with a breast augmentation these more subtle fixes can stay under the plastic surgery radar. This is of course a good thing for the patient and as much as I can't tell you for 'fairly certain' who's had what of the celebrity sect, I can assure you if there has been a need it's been done.

So ladies, go out there and invest in a good pair of sneakers for the gym, heels for those big nights out (nothing elongates legs like 5 inch stilettos) , and follow up with your plastic surgeon for the rest!

Not Just An American Dream

In case anyone was wondering whether or not the plastic surgery obsession was just an American thing, it was confirmed this week by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery that the folks across the pond are equally has addicted. The British newspaper, The Telegraph, reported earlier in the week that the BAAPS released their plastic surgery statistics for 2010 with many procedures showing significant increases from 2009.

One of the most dramatic increases was the number of Breast Augmentations done on English soil last year. BAAPS reported 9,430 cases in 2010, up 10% from the previous year. British plastic surgeons are attributing this in large part to Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks curvaceous figure. The Telegraph quotes a sources as saying, "Christina Hendricks is gorgeous, and the hourglass figure is definitely back in fashion. Let's just say that heroin chic isn't the big thing at the moment." Poor Kate Moss. It will be interesting to see if she shows up in the tabloids with double d's in the near future...

Our Biggest Loser

For those of you readers who have been to our office this face probably looks familiar. Olivia has been the office manager at Dr. Walden's for 2 years and she, along with her sister Hannah, is on the current season of the Biggest Loser getting her butt kicked by Bob and Jillian.

We are so proud of our girl who has long wanted to get the weight off and will no doubt return to us slim and trim. I know one of her concerns before leaving for the show was that if she was able to lose all the weight she may be left with saggy skin. This can be a problem after any major weight loss and it is very common for people to undergo a tummy tuck or full body lift as the icing on the fat-free cake once the extra l.b.'s are gone. This is not something people should even think about until the weight is not only gone, but has been kept off for quite awhile. For those who are just getting rid of the weight to save themselves from heart disease and diabetes, then the aesthetic result may not matter so much. For many though, there is the element of vanity which cannot be achieved without a nip/tuck at the end. In those instances I think people should hold their head high on their way to their plastic surgery consultation. I think of it as a much deserved reward for all that hard work! What a cupcake used to be after a job well done! After all, these are not pounds that would come off with a little more time on a treadmill. There is only one way to get rid of excess skin to this degree and that is with a knife.

Well lucky for a Olivia she's got an in with one of New York's top plastic surgeons if she ever needs one....

No Granny Sweater Here

Award show season has begun ladies and gentlemen. The dresses, the shoes, the jewelry, the hair and makeup...oh yes and the awards of course! For the next month we will see our favorite celebrities wearing our favorite designers and we get to critique and decide who dropped our jaws and who should immediately fire their stylist and/or trainer. While most people did look amazing at the Golden Globes this week, it was Jane Fonda who turned the most heads. She looked unbelievable in her black George Hobeika gown with winged shoulder tips and silver sequined sleeves. I would be impressed with the way she looked in the gown if she were any age but the woman is 73 years old! She attributes her appearance to always staying active (she has done dozens of fitness tapes) and to having some plastic surgery done. Well someone did something right.

The greatest thing is she looks exactly like herself, no different. She just looks young and vibrant and beautiful. I love that she still has the same face she did 30 years ago (actually she still has the same body too). I think I might have to put some leggings on and watch those tapes of hers. After all, the woman has turned the heads of generations of men. I’m sure some wives out there were waiting for Fonda to look old one day so their husbands would stop drooling. Well no such luck ladies…43 years later and Barbarella is still a knockout.

The Frozen Globes

Awards Season!!!! Woohoo! January is a tough month to get through with the cold weather, lack of daylight, forced diet to fit into your pants, already failed resolutions, and one of the few upsides to this difficult 31 day period is that it is the beginning of awards season. The Golden Globes serve as the official kickoff, always drawing an A-list crowd from both the small and big screen.

Last Sunday's Globe awards were handed out and the winners were for the most part awarded to the front runners in each category. Natalie Portman for 'Black Swan', Annette Bening for 'The Kids Are Alright', Christian Bale for 'The Fighter', and the list goes on...Luckily for the audience there were no big surprises because animating their face correctly for this scenario would have proven difficult for many. Not all frozen is created equal, and some stars looked better and more natural than others, but for some it's time to let it go just a little bit to allow for some movement and graceful aging. I am all for turning back the clock but taking the battery out of it completely is not the idea. Let's take a look at the nominees for the best injected celebrity of the Golden Globes...

Bridalplasty Obsession

I finally caught an episode of Bridalplasty and it is official...I have a new guilty pleasure!! I thought reading US Weekly was a good outlet to leave your brain at home and have a good mindless read....well watching my new favorite reality show takes the wedding cake in this department!! Your brain could be on another planet while watching and you wouldn't notice!

So just to get those of you who have been in the dark like myself up to speed on the premise of the show, you have the typical reality t.v. setup with a famous host, Shanna Moakler, and die hard contestants who in this series are vying for the "perfect wedding". By perfect I do not mean the most beautiful flowers and best band...I mean perfect nose, breast, and body. Dead serious. The winner of this E! hit wins their wish list of procedures which according to the show will make them the "perfect bride".

It wouldn't be a reality show without a weekly challenge and in last week's episode the challenge entailed the remaining contestants, along with their future mother-in-law (not joking) to run around Venice Beach doing a photo scavenger hunt of sorts. One task was to take a photo of someone being buried in the sand. See below photo as proof that contestant Allyson's future m.i.l. volunteered for the job. Anything to help out family I guess..

I couldn't help but laugh out loud picturing my own mother-in-law buried in the sand so that I could have a free nose job for my wedding.

So each week the winner of the challenge gets to have a surgery off their wish list which gives them immunity from being kicked off the show while they recover. At this point in the season there are quite a few girls in various stages of the post op process from a wide variety of procedures. This brings me to one of my favorite parts of the show. Now you have all the cattiness that goes along with girls living together competing for the same prize, but with bandages!! There are girls trying to yell at each other but can't because their voices are nasal and they don't want their nasal splint to fall off! Think of it like if the girls on The Bachelor got into a limo accident on their way to meet their "husband" and had to spend the rest of the season in casts. It is hysterical!!

Sadly at the end of each episode somebody has to turn out the lights of their wedding closet (i.e. gets kicked off), done very dramatically at the RSVP ceremony, ruining their chances of becoming the perfect bride. Hopefully they all have nice fiances waiting for them back home to console their big noses and fat thighs. There is always CareCredit...

Country Cup-Size

It has been quite the publicity storm for LeAnn Rimes over the past few years between her divorce from Dean Sheremet and affair with hottie Eddie Cibrian who is now her fiance. Her latest love affair with the tabloids has nothing to do with men and everything to do with cup size. It seems as though she recently added some "dimensions" to her ultra fit body that were on display in a little red bikini this week in Cabo. According to US magazine, she not only went for the enhancement that Cibrian's ex-wife Brandi Glanville had also done in the past, but went to the same plastic surgeon. Hope they don't have post-op appointments scheduled for the same day!

I think she looks fantastic! She clearly works very hard at maintaining her slim, toned figure and the conservative breast augmentation she chose looks very natural, complimenting her fabulous bod. With all the drama of recent years seemingly behind her, she can now look toward the future and bring her new girls along for the ride...

You Want Me To Do What??

Recently, actress Carey Mulligan has been heard verbally bashing the doctor in Los Angeles who suggested she try botox after she asked him what to do about the wrinkles around her eyes. To be honest, I don’t know why she is so surprised the doctor recommended it. If you approach a doctor with a problem they should give you all of your options. If your concern is wrinkles around your eyes then botox should be mentioned as a possible treatment option. What Carey is not aware of is that botox is not just used for correction purposes; it can be used to prevent wrinkles as well.

Carey says she is upset that the doctor offered it to her because she is 25 years old. I can say from people that I have known that at 25 years old you can have sun damage and wrinkles if you did not take care of your skin well. That is why I’m glad I had older sisters to guide me towards the sun block aisle (thank you!). The point is: don’t shoot the messenger Carey. The doctor gave you your options and you can choose to do what you want without don’t publicly attacking him or something other people believe in.

On that note, I’m going to see my family...

Like Mother Like Daughter

Blythe Danner and Gwyneth Paltrow are both busy promoting their new movies 'The Little Fockers' and 'Country Strong' respectively this holiday season. It is a celebrity's year round job to look good but they often take it up an extra notch while doing promotional tours for new projects. It looks like this mother-daughter duo has been hitting the mall, spa, salon, and doctor's office together! They both look fabulous. Fresh, radiant, recognizable, and age appropriate...the best version you could ask for of a 67 and 38 year old woman!

At 'The Little Focker' premiere the other night Blythe was asked about her and her daughter's Botox habits by US magazine and she said, "Well, I think we've all fooled around with it. I won't go into detail but we all need a little help from our friends". She went on to make a clear distinction between what's a "little help" and what is overboard and unattractive (big lips, puffy cheeks, etc). I like how she downplayed getting Botox as normal upkeep for the current day aging woman. Why walk around with wrinkles if you don't have to? I have all the confidence in the world that she will continue to age beautifully and gracefully.

I've had a little girl crush on Gwyneth from the very beginning when she was dating Brad and starring as Emma in the movie remake of the famous Jane Austen novel of the same name. She was like that girl in high school that was only a few years older, but seemed to be much more, that was a goddess, but usually peaked at 17 and it went downhill from there. Not my Gwyneth! She is confident enough to leave the spotlight whenever she wants and returns as she pleases. She married a rockstar, had two adorable kids, moved to London, did a guest spot on Glee, and now sings and plays guitar in her new movie all the while looking hotter, healthier, and more fit as time goes on. She is role model for Hollywood and regular working girls alike. Not surprising since she has to look no further than her mother for beauty advice.

Not A Good Look, Detective

These days there is a new cop show on every night and that’s fine with me since I am a self-proclaimed sap for cop shows. There is nothing out there like the show Dexter though. The main character, Dexter, is a cop and a vigilante serial killer that you like so much you forget he is actually killing people (don’t worry they’re bad guys!). If you’re a fan and saw last season’s finale then you were so shocked you either fell off your couch or yelled at the t.v. for ten minutes (which is what I did). It’s that good.

I began watching the show the first year when not that many people knew about it. Like a lot of other shows, as it got more popular, the cast got better looking. I think they sent them away somewhere and they all came back with better bodies, outfits, hair, and makeup. Everyone except Detective Quinn, that is. (Desmond Harrington). Some of you know him as the devious Uncle Jack from Gossip Girl. If you knew him from either show you probably thought he was good looking. Maybe not so much anymore. He came back for this season of Dexter much skinnier and looks like he had a lot of work done on his face. Personally, I think he did too much. The bottom picture looks much better. Women in Hollywood do it all the time but it’s rare to see a man over do it like this. Call me old fashioned, but I like men to look like men with a few wrinkles here and there. It shows wisdom, character, and if we’re lucky a little maturity.

Confession of an Armpit

Although never confirmed by the Burlesque star it has always been assumed that Christina Aguilera had her breasts augmented early on in her career. Even back in the day when she was 90 pounds soaking wet, singing about a genie in a bottle, there were signs that mother nature did not deserve all the credit for her cute little body. Only now though has it been revealed (physically not verbally) that she elected for the transaxillary approach as the incision for her breast augmentation. As you can see from the above photo, taken by the British press at a Tokyo event for her new movie, the starlet is clearly displaying a telltale sign of implant entry. Scarless breast augmentation is not an option and the incision/scar has to be placed somewhere. This is often a bigger decision for breast augmentation patients than the size of the implant. The three options patients have to choose from are under the breast, around the nipple, and through the armpit (no I did not leave out the belly button, sorry to disappoint ladies but that approach is a one way ticket to complicationville). Often times the decision is made by one's anatomy and where on that particular individual the scar will be the most inconspicuous. A common misconception is that a scar not on the breast itself will prove to the world that "they" are real, however the incision on the axilla can be a dead giveaway because of its distinct location and length. Scar formation varies from person to person and a raised or pigmented scar on the armpit can make wearing sleeveless outfits a challenge. The slightest arm raise can become an advertisement for your plastic surgeon. This is something that should be taken into consideration when making the decision of where to have the incision for a breast augmentation. So Christina may have made an accidental confession about her surgical past but she is beautiful, no matter what they say ;)

So I am finally out of my turkey coma and caught up on all the shows I missed over Thanksgiving while traveling to visit family and eat my body weight in stuffing. I truly wish that I was able to catch the ABC primetime special, 'Celebrity Plastic Surgery Gone Too Far?', live the night before Thanksgiving because I would have lost my appetite in time to save myself from the beginning surge of the holiday pounds. Instead I was left home last night, on a night where I was eating salad for dinner anyway, to shake off the disturbing footage from the special.

I will keep my recap of the Heidi Montage portion brief because I really don't like giving her attention (no picture on purpose-we've all seen it and yes we know, 1o procedures in one day!!) but she was a big part of the special so I do need to mention her. All of sudden she has nothing but regret about having her marathon round of surgeries and is placing blame on her deceased surgeon for not thoroughly educating her on the procedures prior to surgery. Funny how just a few months ago she was on the same network defending her decision to go under the knife that many times all the while singing Dr. Ryan's praises. I guess it's pretty easy to change your tune once the surgeon can no longer defend himself and the public despises you for your new dimensions. I just wish Cynthia McFadden would have been harder on her during the interview. I found her to be way too sympathetic toward Heidi's sudden change of heart which is disrespectful to the late Dr. Ryan as well as indulging to her addiction to attention. Everybody just needs to ignore her. It is the only way she will go away.

Next up, Pete Burns. What to even say about this guy, maybe girl... To be honest, I didn't even know who he was prior to watching this special and now I can't get those massive excuses for lips out of my head (this is where the appetite went south). I don't know what to say other than there is something really wrong upstairs and what the guy truly needs is a brainplasty.

Last but not least...Janice Dickinson. I like her. Her candidness if refreshing and despite the fact that she opts for an unnecessary extra syringe here and there she is still a role model for not caring what people think. I think as women we are wired to be sensitive to the smallest of criticisms and at the end of the day what does it really matter what people who don't even know us think? She truly puts her middle fingers in the air to her haters and I applaud her for that. Kind of makes me want to be thicker skinned myself.

Blind Date With A Surgeon..Are You On One?

I recently found out that a woman in Boise, Idaho was scammed a few weeks ago into getting a breast exam in a bar restroom by a woman claiming she was a plastic surgeon. The ‘alleged’ doctor has since been arrested on felony charges on the unlicensed practice of medicine. Some of you might be wondering what was this woman thinking and why did she expose herself to a complete stranger? I was thinking the same thing and then it made me wonder how much people really know about the surgeons they go see. Years ago the only way to find a surgeon was to look one up in the yellow pages and all you got was a name and number. Today, however, we have the internet with its endless flow of information. To just pick a name and call for an appointment may not be as bad as being examined in a bar bathroom but you are also doing yourself a great disservice. Don’t look for one with your eyes closed.
Do your research! Picking a plastic surgeon should not be like going on a blind date because let’s be honest: how many of those are successful? Check to see if the doctor is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and see what hospital they are affiliated with. Plastic surgeons should have a website so go on it and you should be able to see what school the doctor went to, what training they have had, any awards they may have received, etc. Look to see what procedures they do and if they have before and after pictures. This is also a good opportunity to think about what it is you want and what look you are hoping to achieve. Once you’ve done your research then you should call and make an appointment for a consultation. On the day of the visit it should be a two way street. You should feel comfortable telling the doctor what you want and he/she should discuss your options with you, reasonable expectations, risks, recovery time, etc. If you do your homework and find your suitable plastic surgeon then you should be able to walk out of the consultation confidently. Almost like walking home from a great first date, already excited for the next one!

What's Real and What's Silver?

Singing, dancing and acting may not be her thing....so why did 4.7 million fans (including my coworkers and I) tune in this August for the premiere of this season's Keeping Up With The Kardashians? Perhaps we want to see the sense of reality or normalcy that we don't get to see on the airbrushed and perfectly positioned pictures we compare ourselves to. It is the same reason why we buy gossip magazines...our little guilty treasures. We want to see cellulite and stretch marks and bad hair days! Be honest: it makes you feel better about yourself. This is especially true when we see celebrities having injections done and plastic surgeries. Celebrity news shows often enlist the help of Dr Walden to decide who has had what done so the public can see what plastic surgeons see.

Now, that said, the Kardashian show has as many fans as it does because we feel they are being real with us. Kourtney has had breast implants and she openly talks about it. So why does Kim deny having any breast-related surgeries and more importantly are we being cheated? In this W spread, everything seems to be out in the open and quite shiny and silver. To those who watch the show, we know that Kim turned down a nude shot for Playboy. So why did she then pose nude for W? Maybe it is because the silver paint is hiding signs of breast implants. To the untrained eye this might be true but take a closer look! In the picture, the shading of the silver paint as it reflects off the flashes of the camera shows that Kim could be dealing with change in breast shape due to her implants. It's called capsular contracture and it occurs when excessive scar tissue forms around the implant and tightening occurs. Large, heavy implants placed in the subglandular position (instead of under the muscle of the breastbone) can more frequently end up looking tight and misshape the breast (causing tissue stretch and indentation in the skin). Could this be what we are seeing this on the inner aspect of the left breast more than the right in the W photo?

So, Kim, just tell us all! We promise to still like you and most of us will like you more if you come clean. We know that you were blessed with a derriere of extreme proportions. We know that it must have been hard being so un-proportioned and you wanted to be more balanced. We all want the same thing and we are some even have plastic surgeons to help us out. We are not born perfect...especially since we all have a different idea of what perfection is. The important thing is that we can be happy and we can get the look we want with a little help from our friends with steady hands and skills with the scalpel. What do you think?

Boobie Ban

It was early October when I saw my first "I Love Boobies!" bracelet. It was on the wrist of one of our patients, and since a great deal of what we do around here involves "boobies", a conversation about the bracelet began almost immediately. Before I even found out the important message behind the bracelet I was inquiring about where to get one. Once I found out that the bracelets were designed to raise money for, and promote breast cancer awareness, I wanted to buy 50! They were cute, trendy, and most importantly bringing awareness to a disease that affects the lives of so many.

What negative could there possible be with this accessory? Well apparently schools across the

country did not feel the same way I did. Students were showing up to school, many of whom had parental permission to do so, wearing their bracelets proud only to find themselves suspended or the bracelets banned. Many school districts called the bracelets inappropriate and a distraction from learning. I don't doubt for a second that there were breast related comments made by teenagers that had nothing to do with breast cancer, however I do not think this is reason to take disciplinary action against something that is overall very positive. What type of message does that send to our youth? I have vivid memories of boys blowing up condoms like they were balloons during sex education but that was not a reason to not teach and promote safe sex.

Well there are a group of mothers in Pennsylvania that feel the same way I do. They have filed a class action lawsuit against a school district for placing a ban on the bracelets. The are calling the ban a breech of the first amendment and fighting for their freedom of speech. May justice prevail...

The First Cut is the Deepest

I might be one of the few contributors on this blog who is not from Texas but I still love me some country music!! Did anyone watch the CMA awards last night? The performances were amazing and all of the country stars looked fabulous. One stand out for me was Sheryl Crow. She is almost fifty and does not look a day over honky tonk thirty! Whether or not the first "cut" has happened is questionable, but she has definitely had injections in her face. Good ones! She has just the right amount of Botox so that when she performed last night there was some nice movement in her forehead, but she is wrinkle free. She has great definition in her cheeks which leads me to believe she has probably had a more volumizing filler put there such as Radiesse or Sculptra. Her long hair and toned figure also contribute to her youthful appearance. She is the perfect example of maintaining her youth without going overboard. The irony of her performance last night was that it was a tribute to the great living legend, Loretta Lynn. Loretta looks like her first, second, and third cuts were all the deepest! In her defense, Loretta did not have access to fillers like we do today, and cutting was the only option in her day. She will always be the first female country singer to win the coveted 'Entertainer of the Year' award so she is forgiven for having one too many facelifts during her career. Sheryl on the other hand will probably continue defying mother nature for years to come...

Revisiting NeNe

For those of you who are devoted readers of our blog you might recall a posting I put up a few months ago about NeNe Leakes. At the time it was confirmed that she has a nose job, mainly because when such a significant change is on your face it is hard to deny. There was speculation at the time that NeNe either had additional procedures or was considering them. In my previous posting I referred to footage that had recently been taped for The Real Housewives of Atlanta where NeNe was at her plastic surgeon's office for a breast and liposuction consult. Well that episode recently aired and NeNe is now taking the guessing out of the game and admitting to downsizing her implants in addition to having her breasts lifted and liposuction to contour her waist. Not quite a Heidi Montag day but that is still a significant amount of surgery for one day. She told People magazine that she feels really confident and couldn't be happier with her results. I think she looks great and the fact that she thinks so too is most important. If she quits while she's ahead she will be a good example of what the combination of diet/exercise and plastic surgery can achieve. Any more trips to visit the knife and you can be certain that I will retract that statement in a future blog. Gotta love those "real" housewives...

Greys Anatomy Features Gynecomastia

Last week on ABC's Grey's Anatomy the episode highlighted a plastic surgery procedure that isn't talked about as heavily as say breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, etc.

A lot of people don't understand the condition Gynecomastia so here is a little more information about the topic:

One of the most common misconception is that Gynecomastia can easily be "solved" by weight loss, which is not factual.

Gynecomastia is a result of the development of abnormally large mammary glands in men resulting in what appears to be male breasts. Specifically it is characterized by excess glandular tissue development and localized fat or a combination of both.

According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery it can be caused by hormonal changes, heredity conditions or drug use.

The ASAPS also says Gynecomastia has been known to result in low self esteem and unhappiness with one’s physical appearance.

Additionally, Gynecomastia may occur unilaterally (one breast) or bilaterally (both breasts).

Botox Injections Approved for Your Worst Headache

The United States FDA last week approved Botox, the anti-wrinkle shot from Allergan, as a treatment to prevent chronic migraines. This came after the company agreed last month to pay $600 million to settle allegations that it had marketed the drug for off-label uses for years.

The FDA’s decision endorses doctors’ use of Botox to treat patients who suffer from a severe form of migraine involving headaches at least 15 days a month. Botox is already approved by the FDA to treat blepharospasm, strabismus, hyperhydrosis, cervical dystonia, and muscle spasticity in the upper extremities. It is widely known as the most popular wrinkle smoother on the planet and is approved for cosmetic purposes to treat glabellar furrows between the eyebrows. Interestingly, Allergan projects that sales of Botox for chronic migraine and other medical uses would soon exceed sales of the drug as a wrinkle smoother... but I'm not so sure of that. Often insurance companies do not pay for medical uses (including treatment of migraines), and the out of pocket expenses can be quite high. Cosmetic patients expect such treatments to be an out of pocket expense and can typically afford it.
A Botox migraine treatment generally involves a total of 31 injections in seven areas — including the forehead, temples, the occipital area, the neck and shoulders. To treat chronic migraine headaches, injections are given about every three months. There was some question about whether the FDA would want more medical evidence because one of two studies used to bolster Allergan's migraine application failed its main goal. Allergan said that the FDA was most interested the secondary goal of reducing headache days, however, where that study showed success was in treating migraine pain episodes.

Adverse reactions for patients in those studies included headaches, migraines, eyelid drooping, muscle weakness and some other conditions.

Allergan said the effects of Botox for migraine treatment last up to three months per treatment, about the same for other uses such as wrinkle ablation by injecting between the brows. It is great that there is now another approved treatment for such a debilitating condition as migraine headache, but I truly doubt that Botox for medical usage such as this one will ever eclipse the sales and usage of it for treatment of wrinkles given its enormous popularity in our desire for the fountain of youth!

I have a confession. In the past, mayyybe on more than one occasion, I have thought about blogging about how I thought Lea Michele would benefit from a nose job. I'm sorry! I know! We are supposed to encourage people to accept their God given traits but I happen to work for a plastic surgeon who does a really good rhinoplasty, and the results that I have seen have led me to think a little outside the genetic pool.

Well in the November issue of GQ our beloved Glee star has told myself, along with everyone else who suggested or implied the same over the years, what she thought of us. She is quoted as saying, "f-word those people who told me to have a nose job." She goes on to talk about how she was one of the few girls in her high school who did not undergo the knife, despite probably needing it the most. She is proud to be on a show that promotes acceptance of the "non-popular" high school sector. We can all relate to feeling like a misfit at some point during adolescence, and it is refreshing to see such popularity come from a show where the entire message is that this is okay.

I applaud Lea for staying true to herself and being comfortable in her own skin. Surgery is not for everybody and should always be done for no one else but the person on the operating table. Leah, I owe you an apology, who am I to tell you what makes you beautiful. You are perfect just the way you are and the most important thing is that you feel this way. If you ever change your mind I know a great surgeon ;)

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Face Not So Real

So I was reading Us Weekly and stumbled upon an article about the new Bravo series, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It said one of the wives Taylor Armstrong was going to undergo dermal filler procedures in the first episode so I obviously had to tune in!

Turns out Armstrong was injected by fellow housewife Arienne Maloof's husband who is a Plastic Surgeon in California.

Armstrong also said she got the procedure done because she felt pressure to stay beautiful and young looking.

New Face of Almay...New Nose?

In a commercial for Almay eye shadow it looks as though the new spokesperson, Kate Hudson, may have undergone a tip-plasty. A tip-plasty is a surgical procedure in which just the tip of the nose and its cartilages are refined (as opposed to a septoplasty which remedies a deviated septum, and a total rhinoplasty). Many have speculated that Hudson underwent a rhinoplasty in the past. While we can speculate she underwent a second surgical procedure to refine the tip of her nose, nothing can be confirmed. The End of an Era

It's the end of an era! On August 26th Lisa Rinna underwent lip reduction surgery to remove the silicone that has been in her pout since 1986. Her lips have been a hot topic for years and she was ultimately open about the silicone procedure. Her admission backfired with constant criticism and jokes on her behalf that admittedly hurt her feelings. Well I guess she had enough! She claims that she got tired of her lips feeling "bumpy and uneven", likely a result of scar tissue that built up over the years around the silicone, but it is hard to believe that the ridicule she's had to endure didn't influence her decision to have the silicone removed. She is seen above on her t.v. show 'Harry Loves Lisa' having a consultation for the removal procedure. It is estimated to take 6 months to see the final result and it will be interesting to see what her lips look like when the healing is complete. I have a hard time believing that after almost 25 years there won't be any permanent scarring. Luckily if there is some degree of irregularity her physician can use Restylane or Juvederm to even things out. If only these fillers were available in 1986...

Did you all catch Sunday nights episode of Brothers and Sisters on ABC? Well if you didnt, Nora Walker talks to Sarah about how since they are aging they should consider plastic surgery.

Nora wants a facelift and Sarah just wants a couple Botox shots to the forehead. When Kevin finds out, he also inquires about getting a browlift or a blepharoplasty! In the episode you dont see them go for the consultation but they discuss it before and after the supposed event.

Nora thought that she needed to look younger in order to be taken seriously in a working environment. But in the end Nora's brother Saul Holden convinces her to appreciate her fine lines and wrinkles as memoirs of a great life.

It seems plastic surgery is all over the media these days and pop culture is incorporating it into American sitcoms as well.

Just like the rest of America I am obsessed with Glee and was in stitches (no surgery pun intended) during the season premiere watching Sue Sylvester tell Santana what she thought of her "summer surgery". Having breast augmentation is not to be take lightly, and we encourage girls to be physically and mentally ready to undergo this procedure, however a little plastic surgery humor never hurt anyone. It's no secret that Brittany, fellow cheerio played by actresss Heather Morris, has breast implants, but the question remains whether or not Naya Rivera was acting or if this is a case of art imitating life. Regardless of whether or not Santana is wearing a padded bra to play the part, or went for the real deal, I am fully entertained by the storyline and can hardly wait for another new episode next Tuesday.

Is the so-called "one-stitch face-lift" really a fast pass to a youthful appearance?

The wrinkle-free results may not be as long-lasting as with a traditional operation, but the minimally invasive procedure is a hot ticket right now in cosmetic surgery.

Two reasons. It's quicker and cheaper than a traditional face-lift, which requires more inpatient care time.

"There's a strong trend right now to perform less invasive procedures for facial rejuvenation," Dr. Jennifer Walden, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital told the Daily News. "People want instant results and minimal down time, so there is a demand for these procedures. No one can take two or three weeks off from work to recover."

The "instant" face-lift consists of four stages, Walden explained: the insertion of the barbed thread, then the deployment of the suture material, followed by the anchoring of the soft tissues and then the fixation into place.

There's one superlong, supersneaky suture. And yes, the needle is big.

Angelica Kavouni, 47, told the Daily Mail that she was unhappy with her "increasingly jowly" appearance. She decided to give the "one-stitch face-lift" -- also called a thread lift or an iGuide -- a try with plastic surgeon.

Hardy experienced minimal side-effects from the 40-minute procedure and said that with makeup, she could return to work that day.

So can one stitch hold up, or hold back all those years?

Not exactly, according to Angelo Cuzalina, president-elect of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

The face, he notes, "has a lot of ligaments and tissues that tend to pull back down, so it’s not like a single suture could ever hold up a face or a portion of the face."

But the technique is getting better and better all the time, Walden says. "Our methods are getting better so they will last longer."

In the meantime, Hardy told the Mail that if she didn’t like her "new" face, the surgeon had said that the face-lift was reversible. Basically, it was a matter of pulling out the suture.

Miami Thong Lift

We've all heard of the Brazilian bikini but Brazil isn't the only place where thongs are popular and tooshies are tight. A procedure becoming increasingly popular is known as the "Miami Thong Lift," and as its name implies, is popular in Miami, FL. The procedure was presented at the conference of British Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons in London.

Rather than use silicone implants, grafts of fat liposuctioned from the thighs or stomach is purified and then injected into the layers of muscle of the buttocks, changing their shape. As with any procedure there are risks. While some doctors say the procedure can be done with a local anesthetic, and there is no risk of rejection since the fat belongs to the patient, once injected, the fat may not get adequate blood supply, die and be reabsorbed by the body. This could result in an uneven bum. The procedure is supposed to make the buttocks shapely and not necessarily larger. Before any surgical procedure it is important to consider all of the risks and long-term effects-- no butts about it! (I couldn't help myself).

E! Introduces Bridalplasty, a New Reality Show

E! the company that produces Dr. 90210 Extreme Plastic Surgery who recently featured Dr. Jennifer Walden is about to embark on a new television series: Bridalplasty.

The new reality show will have brides-to-be compete in wedding-themed challenges (ranging from writing vow to planning honeymoons) to win surgeries their plastic surgery wish lists.

Winners will then under go the procedures immediately results will be shown at the beginning of the next week's episode.

"Viewers will witness his emotional and possibly shocked reaction as they stand at the altar and he lifts her veil to see her for the first time following her extreme plastic surgery," E! said.

Also, according to E! the women are voted out one by one by the other competitors and the last woman standing wins their dream wedding.

Airing this past Sunday, Kim Kardashian under went Botox® treatments to her crowsfeet around her eyes on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Kardashian who probably is no stranger to plastic surgery procedures had a mild meltdown about the bruising that occurred under her eyes from the product.

As a result of a flood of attention and emails from America, Kardashian released this statement on her blog:

“I’ve been getting lots of emails and comments regarding the botox episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians so I wanted to address this today to clear some things up.

On the show you saw I had some bruising around my eyes after the procedure, which is totally natural, but because I hadn’t looked into the side effects, I freaked out. In no way was Dr. Kassabian a bad doctor… it wasn’t a botched job at all!!

I am not against botox, and I would never judge anyone else for getting any kind of surgical or non surgical procedure, but I think when you’re young there are other ways you can look after your skin, and some amazing products on the market, like Fusion Beauty’s Illumifill, that help keep you looking young and beautiful. Botox just wasn’t necessary for me at this age.”

Besides the obvious paid product placement, I feel Kardashian handled the matter well. She admitted she didn’t appropriately prepare and that she over-reacted.

My money still is on that shell go back for another syringe though!

Kate Gosselin: Mommy of Eight to Sexy Mama

Since Kate Gosselin first appeared on "Jon and Kate Plus 8"a lot has changed; not just Gosselin's celebrity status but also her body. We have seen Gosselin go from "mommy of eight" to "sexy mama" after a tummy tuck and inception of a fitness regimen. However, many are beginning to speculate that Gosselin's new look may be the result of multiple procedures.

For starters, Gosselin appeared on the cover of People Magazine with a great figure and round, perky breasts. It is a known fact that most women lose some of their breast volume after having children. Breasts can begin to demonstrate pstosis or sagging, but not Gosselin's breasts! Though it cannot be confirmed, her breasts may look this good as a result of a breast augmentation and/or mastopexty or lift.

Additionally, rumors have circulated that Gosselin may be an avid fan of Botox, or have undergone liposuction of the submental area of the face (the area below the chin) as her face is taught and skin is smooth. Gosselin may have also undergone other surgical procedures. Our very own Dr. Jennifer Walden says, "Looking at recent photos of her in a bikini, she [Gosselin] may have had liposuction of her thighs as well. How great was Jennifer Grey on Dancing With the Stars Monday night?! She moved Carrie Ann to tears with her debut performance proving that her ability to dance her way into our hearts was not left at Kellerman's. She looks fabulous at fifty, and hardly a day older than when she performed that infamous lift with the greatly missed Patrick Swayze. The most noticeable difference from then to now is not what you would expect after all this time (wrinkles, some sag, maybe a little weight gain) but rather a rhinoplasty that she had done not long after her Dirty Dancing days. Unlike nowadays when celebrities watch their careers soar after having good plastic surgery (all Ashley Simpson had on her resume pre-pretty nose was Seventh Heaven), Jennifer was deemed too unrecognizable after her appearance change and other than a short lived sitcom has rarely been seen on any screen, small or large. Could a Breast REDUCTION be in Heidi Montag's Future?

The latest buzz this week is that reality star and drama queen, Heidi Montag wants a breast reduction. Ms. Montag had this to say to Life & Style magazine:

"My boobs are crushing me. I have major anxiety about it."

Unfortunately, for most people this would seem a very obvious outcome when looking at the petite star. Stylelist.com recently interviewed our own Dr. Jennifer Walden about the complications with oversized breast implants. Dr. Walden had this to say:

"A higher rate of complications is more likely. This is due to the irreparable skin and tissue damage that can occur with the stretch caused by an implant that extends outside of the natural dimensions of the chest and breast," Dr. Walden tells StyleList.

Although I don't think Ms. Montag needs anymore plastic surgery, I do think that a breast reduction would not only look good but is a much healthier option. Dr. Walden agrees that smaller implants would be the best bet. In her surgical opinion:

"I think Heidi would be great with a moderate to full C-cup. Looking at a woman her height and weight, this usually equates to around 300 to 325 cc's," says Dr. Walden -- referring to the unit of measurement for breast implants, which is done in cubic centimeters.

My hope is that she goes ahead and switches out her implants to a smaller more appropriate size for her body. I think that she will not only look a million times better, but I think she will most definitely achieve relief physically.
